About

I am a Teaching Professor in the Department of Mathematics at NC State University and coordinate Distance Education for the department.

I am broadly interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning. My interests include online teaching and course creation, course design, alternative assessment approaches such as mastery-based and standards-based grading, inquiry-based learning, accessibility, and the use of generative AI in teaching and research. My mathematical background is in geometric dynamical systems, with current work on uniqueness problems for singular p-Laplacian equations on annular domains.

I am a co-organizer of the biweekly national seminar Teaching Mathematics with Generative AI with Feryal Alayont, Rachael Lund, and Lew Ludwig. Please contact me if you would like to join or present.

  • 2014, Ph.D. in Mathematics, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Advisor: Christopher K.R.T. Jones. Dissertation: The Geometry of Radial States in Nonlinear Elliptic Problems.
  • 2009, B.S. in Mathematics and B.A. in French and Francophone Studies, with highest distinction, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

My education also included a full academic year at Université Paul Valéry Montpellier III in France and a semester in Kenya and Tanzania. I spent a summer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as a Geophysical Fluid Dynamics fellow, and more recently spent a semester in Cambridge, UK.

Teaching

At NC State I teach across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, including calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, real analysis, mathematical modeling, complex variables, and scientific programming.
